Bushfire watch and act alert – update

In response to rapidly changing conditions and the advice of emergency services, Bluestone Mines Tasmania Joint Venture has initiated a precautionary shutdown of all operations at the Renison Mine.

A short time ago the Incident Management Team made the decision to shut down the mill and cease all underground operations. Staff and contractors have been advised to go home via safe routes. The site will remain closed until the current bushfire threat has passed.

A skeleton crew will remain onsite to perform essential care and maintenance activities as long as it is safe to do so.

BMTJV is also monitoring alerts for Zeehan and will order the evacuation of the Zeehan town camp if conditions worsen.

We would like to recognise the efforts of emergency services that have been working around the clock to protect the West Coast community from these devastating fires.

We urge the public to follow the advice of emergency services and avoid the Renison Bell area, particularly as smoke could affect visibility on surrounding roads.
